The Hangout:

In this segment, Creative Chat Café host, Zef Zan, and cohost, Kenya Halliburton, online business visionary of www.KenyaHalliburton.com, discuss "How to Put Your Marketing on Autopilot!"
Can you imagine what your life would be if you couldn't automate some of the processes in your business?

The thought of having a lot of tasks on your daily "to do list" can be overwhelming and that isn't a healthy business practice, especially when it comes to managing your marketing needs. As an entrepreneur, you have to market and promote your business as much as possible. Learning how to automate your marketing process can save time and improve engagement efforts with your target market.

The Conversation:

ZEF: Do you do your own marketing? If yes, how much of it do you do yourself? And how much time do you dedicate to it per week?

KENYA: I do my own marketing with the help of my intern. I'm a HUGE fan and advocate of automation. My intern sets up most of my automated marketing, such as pre-scheduling Social Media and blog posts. I do the live stuff. Doing it this way frees me up to develop real relationships with my ideal clients and referral partners.

ZEF: In what ways has automating your marketing benefited the growth of your business?

KENYA: I have been featured in the local news; I can easily attract new clients and referral partners without chasing them. I have been freed up to create new products and programs without falling off the radar. I have received guest interviews and blogging requests. All of the marketing developments have given me a new peace of mind.

ZEF: How can a business gain results through incorporating automation in their marketing strategy?

KENYA: Don't automate without a strategy or plan first. Automation makes marketing easier, but you still have to do work. If you are not committed to doing the work up front, automation will not work for you. When implementing automation tools into your marketing strategy, be aware of the Shiny-Object Syndrome; use tools that help you implement your plan, not just because they are popular. The tool you use is only as powerful as the content you put in it.

ZEF: What do you need to do to get started with marketing automation and the flow of leads and clients into your business?

KENYA: Building your business online can be overwhelming, as if you are all over the place. When you pull back and look at the anatomy of a web presence, you have only three primary areas of focus and if you can master these areas, you can begin to cast your net wider without feeling too spread thin or like you are doing a lot of work for a little return on investment. The primary focus of maintaining an active web presence are your social media, your blog, and keeping up with your list. Knowing this, you need to choose technology that connects these three things in a way that most benefits your income goals or your lifestyle.

ZEF'S TIPS:
  • Be smart and embrace technology!
  • If you fear technology, get over it and get HELP! Free YouTube videos could assist with any questions you may have
  • Ask yourself: "Am I willing to lose an opportunity to my competitor just for not knowing how to use technology that could help my clients or customers? What am I willing to do to be successful in my business?"
  • Take advantage of Social Media (SM) Marketing
  • Use tools, such as Hootsuite or Buffer, to schedule and manage general SM posts
  • Don't forget to engage with your audience!

" CAUTION - though you can schedule your SM posts with scheduling tools, be careful not to depend on it 100%. When it comes to SM, writing or scheduling a post is only 30% of what you do; engagement is another and that usually is not something you can 'schedule.' Engagement is best in real-time; otherwise, you will sound 'fake' and your audience can sense it. "
