Shop Local, Small Businesses Saturday

First there’s Black Friday, then there is Cyber Monday, but the one shopping day that needs our support the most is Small Business Saturday. It is the Saturday after Black Friday, and the goal is to support small, local businesses. The flower shop, the ice cream and candy parlor, that nail salon where you get your “mani and pedi”, and many other businesses on Main Street U.S.A.

On its third official year, Small Business Saturday is anything but small. The movement is sponsored by big brands like American Express, Facebook, FedEx, and Google. These brands, and the almost 3 million people on Facebook that have liked the day, know that a lot of America’s economy lies in its small companies. In fact, if you spend $100 in a locally-owned store, $68 of that will go back into the community via taxes, payroll, and other spending.
