LIRONE: Joining us today is Donna French, is an Independent Associate and a Platinum Partner with Viridian, a renewable energy company. Welcome to the show  Donna!
ZEF: So, how did you get started and what inspired you to choose Viridian as your choice of business?
DONNA: I have always been an entrepreneur and constantly looking for something I could feel passionate about and stand behind. I came across this company called Viridian Energy. The green renewable aspect causes a ripple effect, that helps to educate people on a choice  to help save money on electric, and use renewable energy.
LIRONE: What is the company's mission and how does it help you to accomplish your own purpose and/or goals?
DONNA: The Viridian mission is to Power With Purpose. Making people energy independent by showing them how to use renewable energy. Empowering the consumer about their right to Choose. We also partner for change, locally, globally, and individually. The ripple effect. Working for Veridian has given me more time now for my family.

ZEF: Having a purpose or a "WHY" in business can help us stay focused on our goals but how do you help others in your team overcome challenges and stay focused on their own WHY's?
DONNA: I sit with them and get really personal with them,  I help them define their why. I then use their why to motivate them. Make a big deal of their accomplishments, and have events to motivate them.
ZEF: I know you recently got back from a trip to Nicaragua and we have some pictures to share with our audience. Can you please tell us a little bit about the trip. Who went with you and what was accomplished?
DONNA: Yes, this is part of our 7 continents in 7 years program.  When we went to Nicaragua, we stayed at a little town called Platanal. In the center of the town there was a school and all the homes were built around it. We went to the school where we put together the solar boxes to install on the homes. The homes were very small with just a couple of cots, a fire pit, and a corner where they kept their corn and rice. The roofs were made of corrugated metal and old boards that let the light through so it was fairly easy to put the solar panels up there to create energy for them. 
In their village they have no electricity, no cars,  they live very simple lives. Everything we have and take for granted they do not have. And the villagers are such happy people. 

DONNA: Believe it or not, the Nicaraguan farmers actually have cell phones to call into cities and get bids on their crops and things they are selling. Now. with the solar boxes on the roof they can charge their cell phones, making life a little easier. Before this they had to walk 2-3 miles to another village and pay $5 to charge their phones, and they only make about $1200 per year.
We asked them how this changes their lives and they said this changes everything. Each home now has 2 electrical outlets they can use that are powered by the solar panels on the roof. This helps with everyday chores and education because the parents can help teach the children more often. 
ZEF: That is great, Donna! Bringing such good things to those who really need it. I know your Team V has also helped with cleaning up along rivers, helping with tornado victims, and even with Hurricane Sandy. You are a very inspiring team. 
DONNA: Thank you, Zef.

How to plant good seeds:

ZEF: Planting good seeds means to lead by example. You have to do things right - right from the beginning to inspire them. But don't be afraid to show your flaws. Nobody is perfect, and it helps to show others that you are just as vulnerable as they are. 

LIRONE: When working with a team, I think it is all about aligning yourself in what matters to them and showing that it matters to you too. This really drives people and helps you accomplish things together. But it starts with the little "every day" things to get to the big goal. 

DONNA: It is all about helping people one person at a time, bettering the environment  and also myself personally helping people. We are not changing them, we are empowering them. I really get to know people and help them find their "why."
