The Conversation:

ZEF: Today's episode is part two of our health series for February. We have a special guest on today's show, Brittney Kara, who is a Healthy Living Expert, Mompreneur, Speaker, and author of the book, The Silent Scandal - Stop the Toxic Attack on our Bodies.

SONDRA: So Brittney, can you please share with us your story and why you are passionate about it?

BRITTNEY: I have been coaching people healthy living tips for the last eight years. It is my passion to show individuals and families that being healthy is not hard. It is just a choice. There is always an affordable, easy, fun way to get healthy and balance your body. I have personally coached over 1,800 individuals to live consciously with their health through cleansing, superfoods, conscious shopping, and mindset training.

ZEF: Brittney, I am so glad to have you back on Creative Chat Cafe! This is your second time on this show. The first time you were on the show, our topic back then was about leadership. I believe I was going through cancer recovery and you had mentioned in our conversation that the topic is near and dear to your heart. That is also the reason why you are passionate about helping others live a healthy life and have made it your life's mission to do so. Because you yourself is a practitioner and a leader of this lifestyle.

So, Brittney, what does it mean to live healthfully yet simply for you?

BRITTNEY: To me, that means to become an educated consumer and to understand that most of the foods we eat daily are harming us. We must become consciously aware of what we put in and around our bodies and minds daily so we can have the health and life we desire and deserve.

SONDRA: Did you ever reach a point where you knew you were out of whack with your health? Any suggestions on how we all can identify that point?

BRITTNEY: Absolutely! I have been there several times in my life. My answer would be to always check in with your body. Our bodies are always talking to us if we listen. A healthy body craves unhealthy foods and drinks and a healthy body craves good balanced choices. You always have to be checking with yourself daily to make sure you are giving your body the right fuels and love. It takes time in the beginning but as you go on you will find it becomes a habit you never want to stop. When you feel good, your life is good! I have dealt with and overcome multiple health challenges in my life such as addictions, auto-immune issues, blood sugar issues, and skin issues. I was able to heal my body from these ailments because I commit to my health and I recommit everyday.

Simply Healthy Living Recommendations for Busy Business Folks Who Live in This Fast Paced World:

My own simple healthy living tips include:
  1. Make your choices right from the grocery store - don't buy anything you do not want to consume because it is unhealthy (or whatever reason!) e.g. sugary stuff, if you are avoiding dairy, don't buy it or start using healthier options
  2. Don't go grocery shopping on an empty belly!

My personal story and experience coming from a Southeast Asian culture:
  • Oil, coconut milk, and rice make healthier choices at the grocery store
  • Oil - now olive oil or coconut oil
  • Rice - Basmati
  • Meat - avoid red meat by not buying and keeping it it home

Bottom line - conscious healthier decisions are made at the grocery store!

  • Eat breakfast every morning! - If I don't start my day with a good breakfast, I eat like crap and feel like crap for the rest of the day. I will feel hungry all day without it.
  • Get some sleep! - When I don't feel rested, I eat food that's not great for me in the hopes of getting energy. Getting a good night's rest is step #1.
My top tips for health are:
  • Drink more water
  • Cleanse your body regularly
  • Love your body consciously
  • Eat real foods and superfoods everyday
  • Repeat over and over and over
